Mama Yang just nk find out price for flooring and kitchen cabinet.. mmg ada byk choice and of course kena rajin bertanye then compare the price. mmg byk promotion+packages yg ada,but nk dpt all that boleh time exhibition ni je!!!

My Weekend Project

So, I've been wanting to start another sewing project, but with every extra penny going towards saving for a down payment, no extra money for fabric :( When we were moving out of our duplex, I kinda pushed Adam to clean out his closet. He got rid of a lot that he never wore, and threw some pretty old shirts away, but when he came to this one (which he really likes) we were both torn. He never wears it because it is too big, but we both really like it. So I stole it and stuffed it in my fabric box, hoping to either alter it to fit, or make something out of it. Here it is.
Okay, second story. My mom has always sewn (even her wedding dress!). I grew up sewing. My dad likes to tell the story (whenever "sewing" is brought up) that when he was first married and my oldest sister was a baby, he was at work (Air Force) and the sleeve of his white shirt got grease all over it. Ruined, of course. So my mom made a pinafore (apron that you wear over a dress) for my sister out of the extra fabric. I just love that, so innovative, so resourceful, so sentimental, so me! So after a little thought, I asked Adam if I could rip his shirt apart and make a dress out of it. He LOVES that I can sew (and totally a sucker for baby girl clothes) so he was all for that idea. Well, this weekend I cut up that shirt and this is what I came up with. I wanted to keep the "shirt" details in the dress, so that we could still see that "shirt" come out of the dress. Let me just point out that my mom (my sewing idol) just made an apron, and I made a dress, bloomers, and headband and shoes are soon to come :) Take that!

The details I kept:

-Had to have the snap buttons!

-Kept all of the tags and put them on the dress

-Used the front flap pockets, made them much smaller, for butt pockets on the bloomers (my fav)

-Used the point at the back of the shirt (towards the top, the yoke) to make a point for the yoke on the dress.

This has been one of my favorite projects. I've never made something out of an article of clothing, especially making something so different from the original. What do you think? Would you put this on your baby? Adam is overjoyed, thinks it's the cutest thing. See? A major sucker :)

Cheapest Wedding

Recently I had the pleasure of helping a friend organise her sister's wedding. It didn't just have to be cheap it had to be the cheapest wedding ever, they had both just finished university and like most students they were pretty broke.

The date was set and to keep costs down the local registery office was the venue, not the prettiest of places, it was definately built for function rather than looks. Luckily the public park was close and we helped find some great places for the photographs.

The bride to be had some fantastic and unusual ideas for her cheap wedding dress but on one of the many shopping trips fell in love with a beautiful cream summer dress, perfect for the wedding day. Shoes were borrowed from the big sister - very important to have sister's or friends with the same size feet!

Flowers were kept very simple with button holes for the groom and best man and a corsage for the bride.

The venue for the wedding reception was at the big sister's garden - not massive but with standing room only 65 people were fitted in - very good job everyone knew each other!

The wedding breakfast was a buffet, all sourced from the local supermarket, and we made a stunning display with fruit as the centerpiece.

The total cost for the wedding was only a few hundred, but the day was beautiful and simple and all about the happy couple.

* Are tastings available before booking, after booking, or at all? While there are some regional differences, a lot of caterers currently assess a fee for tastings, which even if it costs a couple hundred dollars is a good idea.

* Will the chef who was at the tasting be present for my event? If the answer is no, then the tasting wasn't very useful.

* Besides catering, what different services do you provide?

First and foremost, you need to feel at ease and feel good about the caterer you select. After all, your wedding is a once in a lifetime event, you want to enjoy every minute of it.

The Queen remodelled

Back in the day, there was an amazing magazine called Nova, the intelligent woman's guide to life, fashion, politics and the rest. I adored it when I was a teenager.

A former journalist on the magazine, Brigid Keenan, has just emailed me with this gem, apropos the piece I wrote last week about the Queen as fashion icon:

It was in the days before you could change images on the computer, so what could have been done in a few minutes now, was an incredibly expensive and complicated affair. Basically, we had to find out the Queen's measurements and exact height (we did this at Madame Tussaud's) and then find a model of those proportions. I asked Andre Courreges to design a suit for the Queen - he made a very snappy navy and white outfit, then I got Alexandre, who was the world's top hairdresser then, to design her a hairstyle, and someone else to design the makeup. The Queen-sized model was photographed in the suit, and the hair and makeup superimposed on the image and it all ended up with the Queen looking like herself but some sort of continental, soignee version! (Apparantly she herself thought we'd made her look like Queen Fara Diba!) There was an awful hiccup at one stage because Courreges had insisted on making the skirt above-the-knee length, and when the finished pictures, which seemed to show the Queen in a mini skirt, arrived from the US (where the retouching was done) the Customs siezed them and we only got them back by negotiating with the Palace. The skirt was lengthened to an appropriate length and that was it.
